THE SOUND OF MOVEMENT LIVE

PRESENTED BY JOEL ROCCA
A unique collective of musicians and dancers who push the boundaries of contemporary jazz, classical, afrobeat and dance.

Their unique performance specialises in the formation of contemporary jazz and dance, presenting a thought-provoking journey through improvisation and melodism; offering a new perspective of the two art forms with composition, improvisation and choreography created and performed in a distinctive and new way.

Merging the two worlds together, The Sound of Movement’s debut project launches a brand new EP which embodies the essence of their live show. Featuring a multi-genre suite of music, the Sound of Movement take the audience on a journey showcasing their virtuosity and creativity whilst delving into the world of perspective through sound and movement.

Formed in the creative hub of South-East London and having met whilst studying, the Sound of Movement are following in the path of the likes of Ezra CollectiveNubya Garcia and Oscar Jermone having honed their creative and artistic skill sets at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Composer, instrumentalist and bandleader Joel Rocca set out to explore the possibilities of creating music guided by movement in a collaborative environment; pushing the boundaries of the norms within contemporary jazz.

What started as sketches of compositions, suites of music have been created collaboratively alongside choreography. Melodisicm and harmony play an important part throughout, allowing the performances to remain true to their quest whilst creating a palatable and enjoyable experience for viewers of varying musical tastes.
