On the back of packed-out show The Bogus Woman last Autumn, Mama Quilla return to Omnibus for a brand new debate.
Acts of Defiance produced by award winning company Mama Quilla consists of three short explosive one woman plays, written by internationally renowned writer Kay Adshead.
Each play explores acts of courage that change lives, laws, and perhaps even systems. Although performed separately, the pieces are linked in the production to make a powerful theatrical chain.
The Last Little Girl
performed by Lauren Cato, directed by Michael Batz, (35 minutes) tells the story of Sheann, a cheeky 14 year-old runaway, sold in a rural English pub, and her heart stopping escape.
performed by Jody Jameson (20 minutes) looks at two Essex teenagers Shaq and Vaz, who against all the odds defy society’s predictions, to escape an ancient cycle of abuse.
Three Lotus Flowers
performed by Eugenia Low, (12 minutes), telling Cheng’s story, explores the one child policy in China, celebrates her refusal to allow the state murder of her child to destroy her spirit.
